Rebuilding a Bad Retro Bowl Team: Two Seasons to the Playoffs
Published · 1 min read
Start with the worst team
When Retro Bowl offers you a franchise, the tempting choice is a decent one. Take the worst instead. Bad teams have the top draft pick and the most cap space, and in this game those two things build a roster faster than a middling squad ever climbs.
Season one: quarterback and line
Use the first pick on a quarterback with high accuracy. Arm strength is nice; accuracy is what turns your throws into catches. Then spend cap on two offensive linemen from free agency. A line that holds gives you the extra half-second every drag-throw needs.
Coaching credits go to training
The training facility improves every player each week. It compounds. Upgrade it before the stadium, before rehab, before anything cosmetic. By the second half of the season the difference is visible in every rating on the roster.
Season two: receivers and a running back
With the passer and the line settled, the second draft should add speed at receiver. Speed creates separation, and separation is what makes a long drag-throw safe. One good running back gives you a short-yardage option when the coverage sits deep.
Read fan support like a scoreboard
Fan support is the owner's patience in a single number. It rises with wins and with star players who are happy, and it falls fast after a losing streak. If it dips below halfway, stop experimenting and play the safest football you can until it recovers.
